Created out of East Moyo county in 1997, Adjumani is located on the west of the Albert Nile (River Nile north of Lake Albert) in northern Uganda. It is bordered by Sudan to the north, Gulu to the east and south, Arua, Yumbe and Moyo districts to the west.
Adjumani lies on the low plateau of nothern Uganda, with an elevation ranging between 600 and 1300 metres above sea level. The vegetation is savanna grassland with scattered woodlands and thickets.
The main economic activities are agriculture and fishing. The main crops are maize, millet, sorghum, cassava, sweet potatoes, sesame, beans, cotton and coffee.
